WLC will formally adopt a Declaration
of Need ("DON") as of Tuesday, April 1st, 2008.
Public Notice: Angie (Pei Chi) Kuo
will be employed by Wings Learning Center on the basis of a
Provisional Internship Permit. She will be employed as a Education
Specialist in Moderate to Severe Disability on April 1st, 2008.
Position
Description:
Special Education Teacher - Autism
The
special education teacher works as part of an interdisciplinary
team to provide an educational program to children with Autism.
The
position responsibilities include:

assessing and evaluating students and
programs
-
planning,
preparing and implementing curriculum
-
managing
and supporting students in regular educational setting
-
supervision
of instructional assistants and volunteers
The
person in this position will also work as part of the Individual
Education Plan team and develop goals and objectives and teaching
strategies.
The Special Education Teacher reports to the
Executive Director.
Other responsibilities and duties
may include, but are not limited to, the following:
-
Evaluates
student's current level of functioning as it relates to
areas or academics, using appropriately modified assessment
tools, and leading to development of comprehensive interdisciplinary
educational plans.
-
Regularly
evaluates and reports on student progress, identifying
strengths and needs to assist the team in making program
modifications.
-
Prepare
reports of progress and complete appropriate documentation
and data collection. Design an appropriate learning environment
incorporating appropriate assistive technologies and multi-sensory
materials.
-
Develop
and implements instructional activities based on established
curriculum with the goal of maximizing communication and
participation opportunities.

Manages
the integration of students in the general education environment:
establish and maintain relations with regular education
staff, asses need for support and training to the regular
education personnel and assist in the development of training
plan.

Manage
students Individual Education Plans, including each child's
schedule and activities. Maintain written and verbal communication
with all members of the team including parents and other
professionals involved in the child's education plan.
Develop communication procedures for school to home and
home to school.

Set
up programs, schedules, procedures and materials necessary
for each child to fully participate in regular education
classrooms. Develop appropriate tools to evaluate student's
progress in regular education environment.

Coordinate
the agenda for team meetings with all necessary team members.
-
Supervise
para-educators, instructional assistants and volunteers.
This includes but is not limited to preparing performance
evaluations, training and scheduling activities.

Participate
in team planning and development activities.
-
Participate
in Wing's strategic goal planning.
-
Participate
in the ongoing distribution of information of Wing's promotional
materials, resource materials, and programs.
Special
Requirements:
-
Special
Education Teacher Credential. At least 3 to 5 years experience
in working with children with Autism ages 7-15.
-
Bachelor's
degree in education, with an emphasis in the education
of children with Autism. Credential in Moderate to
Severe disabilities.
Qualifications:
Education,
training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession
of the following knowledge, skills and abilities, typically
acquired through:

Knowledge
of special education principles and strategies as applied
to children with Autism

Knowledge
of augmentative/alternative communication principles and
strategies, and technology applications currently available
in the field
-
Ability
to prepare comprehensive reports, speak and write effectively
and work under a minimum of direction
-
Ability
to coordinate and direct a variety of complex tasks and
assignments
-
Ability
to elicit the cooperation of others and function as an
effective team member
-
Ability
to effectively train and instruct other adult team members
-
Ability
to achieve the professional confidence of others and to
assimilate and relay information, in a manner consistent
with the essential job functions
-
Ability
to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in
a manner consistent with the essential job functions

Ability
to operate assigned equipment, including computers and
assistive technologies
-
Ability
to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate
to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
Salary: $55,000-$65,000
