Description:
Instructional Assistant
Job Summary
The Instructional Assistant
works as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide an
educational program to children with Autism and communication
disorders. The person in this position will also work as part
of the Individual Education Plan team and assist the Special
Education Lead Teacher in the development of goals and objectives for
each student. The Instructional Assistant reports to the Lead
Teacher.
Duties and responsibilities
include but are not limited to:

Supporting students in educational and community settings
- Assist
the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate
curriculum for children with autism and other related
disorders
- Assist
the Lead Teacher in implementing individual and group
behavior plans and systems appropriate to the individual
student
- Assist
the Lead Teacher in the implementation of a Treatment and
Education of Autistic and Communicatively Handicapped
Children (TEACCH) program or other organization methods used
in the classroom.
- Assist
the Lead Teacher in implementing communication tools such
as, Picture Exchange Communications System (PECS) when
appropriate for autistic students
- Maintain
documentation as instructed by Lead teacher.
- Perform
duties necessary to maintain an organized, safe, clean and
structured setting for all children and staff.
