Mission Statement

Wings Learning Center was created to address the unmet academic and social needs of children with Autism, making it possible for them to interact, learn and live with typically developing children.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Respect for each child’s learning differences is the cornerstone of our philosophy. Our mission is two-fold: first, to create a learning environment where children can learn academic, social and interactive skills at a self challenging pace; and second, to provide education opportunities for professionals to obtain the necessary skills to promote effective inclusive environments for children with different learning abilities.

Our teaching philosophy is based on the following concepts:

Respect each child as a whole and unique individual and as an active participant in his/her environment.

Challenge each child by focusing on his/her strength and encouraging consistent steps towards overall development.

Observe and respond to the child’s emotional, academic and social development.

Believe in the child’s ability and desire to progress up the ladder of personal interaction and learning.

How will we accomplish this?

Parent Involvement
Parent involvement is essential to the child’s emotional and academic growth. Parents, teachers and support professionals meet to write a detailed learning plan for their child and to clearly outline goals and objectives for the school year. Parents are required to meet regularly and evaluate their child’s individual plan.

Partnership with local schools
Partnerships will be developed with local schools to establish a classroom in the most inclusive environment.

Communication
Clear and Consistent Communication with all members of each child’s learning team.

Structure
Classroom environment that is structured, calm, organized, clean and conducive to learning across all modalities.
