A One-of-a-Kind Program Filling a Long-Overdue Gap

WINGS Adult is fully designed and will offer a meaningful, skill-building, community-centered day program for adults with moderate to profound autism and developmental disabilities. Over the past six months, we have created a comprehensive program model grounded in CCR Title 17 and Title 22, emphasizing individualized support, community integration, and workforce and life skill development.

We have chosen to pause the launch of WINGS Adult for a short time so we can open strong, stay stable, and serve our clients and families for many years to come.

We are deeply grateful to San Mateo County and Measure K, whose support made it possible for us to thoroughly research, design, and develop the WINGS Adult program. Their investment has allowed us to create a specialized, high-quality service model centered on individualized learning, skilled staffing, and purposeful community involvement

The WINGS Adult Model – Unlike Anything Else

  • A complete curriculum focused on life skills, adaptive skills training, communication, vocational exploration, meaningful employment pathways, and increased independence.

  • Daily hands-on activities that build independence, creativity, fitness, community access, personal growth, and confidence, offered both on-site and throughout the community.

  • Regular consultation and intensive adaptive skills training with professionals in behavior, communication, and functional skills (BCBA, SLP, OT).

  • A sensory-informed physical environment designed to support regulation, communication, learning, and exploration.

  • Highly trained, caring, and patient staff who uphold WINGS’ values of respect, dignity, participant autonomy, and individualized support.

  • A team-based, proactive approach guided by participant interests, strengths, and service plan goals to foster engagement and success.

Supportive Staffing Ratios Designed Around Each Client’s Needs

WINGS Adult will offer flexible staffing ratios tailored to each client’s goals, abilities, behavioral needs, and safety considerations. The program will be prepared to support individuals who may require specialized behavioral strategies or additional assistance on days when regulation, engagement, or communication is more challenging. WINGS Adult will offer low participant to staff ratios:

  • 1:1 Support will be available for clients who need individualized attention, behavior support, personal care, or close supervision.

  • 2:1 Support will assist clients who benefit from moderate support, including shared behavioral coaching, help with transitions, communication, safety, or engagement.

  • 3:1 Support will support clients who can participate in small-group activities with general guidance and occasional prompts.

The WINGS Adult team, including BCBA, OT, and SLP, and trained direct support staff, will use proactive, evidence-informed strategies to understand behavior and sensory needs, enable participation, and promote regulation across environments. Support levels will be adjusted over time as clients grow and their needs evolve.

We look forward to opening our doors and supporting each adult’s path toward greater independence, safety, and autonomy.

We are preparing the foundation for a successful fundraising campaign that will ensure the program launches with strength and long-term stability. Our goals include:

  • $250,000 in one-time start-up costs

  • A short-term bridge fund to support the first several months of operations

  • Approximately $200,000 per year to close the ongoing operating gap and maintain high-quality staffing, curriculum, and services

Our official fundraising campaign will open soon. Supporters, partners, and families who want to help us launch WINGS Adult will have the first opportunity to give once the campaign begins. Every contribution will bring opening day closer and help the program grow and thrive for decades.
